Sarasota Military Cemetery - Established on June 1, 1988, this quiet place is the second busiest cemetery in the US Department of Veterans Affairs National Cemetery Administration. "Active" in the sense that the 131,000 veterans and their family members who now rest here are joined by two dozen more every day.
With more than 7,000 burials each year, Florida National Cemetery is best estimated to be full by 2030. Periodically, burial spaces may become available due to cancellations or after removals are completed. If either of these scenarios occurs, the grave becomes available to another eligible veteran on a first-come, first-served basis.

Since it is impossible to know in advance when a grave will become available, if necessary, contact the cemetery to see if there are any available spaces. The cemetery also includes an administrative and information center for the public with electronic grave locator and public restrooms, service facilities, a cemetery entrance area, a flag collection area and a memorial path and donation area, as well as two shelters, among others.

In 1933, the cemetery was officially opened as a 21-acre burial ground for those who died at Bay Pines Hospital, and in 1984 it became a national cemetery. The cemetery has space for cremated remains and it is possible to place the remains in coffins in the same grave of previously buried family members.
The 338-acre South Florida National Cemetery is located in Palm Beach County in Lake Worth, a quiet, lush setting among the lakes. It is the fifth national cemetery built in Florida, having opened for burials in 2007 and will serve the needs of veterans for the next 50 years.

At the time of construction, there were more than 1.9 million veterans within a 75-mile radius of the Sarasota area, and it was determined that the 295-acre Sarasota National Cemetery would serve the needs of our veterans for the next 50 years.
The cemetery is located in Sarasota County along State Route 72 and approximately four miles east of Interstate 75. Hallowed Grounds Cemetery consists of caskets and cremated remains that can be buried either on the grounds or in the columbarium niches.

Historic St. Augustine National Cemetery, designated national in 1881, is located in St. Augustine, the nation's oldest city. Before it became the National Veterans Cemetery, the site played a key role in the illustrious history of St. Augustine, founded in the 17th century as a Spanish colonial possession.

| Contact Us For Veterans not buried in a VA National Cemetery, the VA provides headstones, markers, or medallions to commemorate their service. In 2017, VA honored more than 361,892 veterans and their loved ones with memorials at national, state, tribal and private cemeteries.

Visiting hours: daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It is open from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Memorial Day. In addition to those on active duty, there are certain circumstances in which reserve forces are also eligible to be honored at the Sarasota National Cemetery.
If your loved one died while on active duty as a reservist in any branch or in reservist training, they may also be eligible for an honorable burial on this hallowed ground. We can assess and determine if burial here is possible for your family member.
This new 295-acre national cemetery will serve the needs of veterans for the next 50 years. It is complete with a public information center complex, electronic grave finder and public restrooms, a memorial path and donation area, as well as two vaults.

In April 2007, the Department of Veterans Affairs purchased the land from private citizens and contracted Miller Legg & Associates of Winter Park, Florida to design the new cemetery. Phase IB construction is complete and provides nearly 18,200 full coffins, including 15,200 pre-positioned vaults, 9,000 sunken cremains and approximately 7,200 columbarium niches.
